Ten thousand and seven hundred signatures - 2,675 for each board member - are needed by Oct. 6 in order to place the recall on the ballot, but recall organizers hope to have more than enough signatures by the end of this month. "We want to have enough signatures by the end of this month to qualify for the September election," said Oregon School Employees Association organizer Patrick Melendy. "We want to put pressure on the school board to reopen Eddyville School, stop the contracting-out of school services, and stop slashing services." Dozens of community members, including several classified and certified employees of the Lincoln County School District, have formed a group known as the Lincoln County School Board Recall Committee. With some help from the OSEA, the group hopes to recall four members of the school board, Jim Kennison, Val Moore, Doug Hunt and Jannette Macpherson - the fifth board member, Jay Fineman, resigned before recall efforts began - and reverse the board's recent decision to cut $2.4 million from the school district's 2002-2003 budget by closing Eddyville School, contracting out for transportation and food services, and slashing several school programs. Two weeks into their recall attempt, the group's support continues to snowball. "There were only eight or nine people at the first meeting and there must be about 200 here tonight," commented Ed Johnston of Toledo, the first proponent of the recall effort. "I think that people needed to have a place to go where they could realize that they aren't the only ones involved with this." Melendy added that dozens of local business owners are in support of the recall efforts and are collecting signatures at their places of business. The crowd donned orange and yellow "recall the school board" pins Wednesday night and filled seven rows of bleachers at Newport Middle School to listen to speakers from the Forest Grove and Hermiston School Districts, the former employers of LCSD's Superintendent Irv Nikolai (Forest Grove) and Business Services Manager Chuck Rhoads (Hermiston). Dana Mercer, an employee of the Hermiston School District, said the first thing that Rhoads did after coming to her district was contract out for transportation and food service. Mercer said the contracting out of services has had negative impacts on the school district, the students and the community of Hermiston, and said some bus drivers have even left students behind. "The most recent one left four students at a McDonald's in Troutdale," she told the crowd of recall supporters. "This (contracting out of services) is very detrimental to have happen in your district." Jerry Maasdan, a certified employee of the Forest Grove School District, said he was glad to see Nikolai retire from his position as Forest Grove superintendent three years ago. Under Nikolai's administration, said Madden, the administration offices were remodeled and 35 new employees were added to the administrative payroll. "That was the biggest thing he did," said Madden. Nikolai, who was hired by the school board in December after serving as interim superintendent, has also been targeted by the recall committee as a negative influence on the school district and the community. In one week, more than 1,000 persons have signed a petition of no confidence regarding the superintendent. The petition states that the superintendent has "violated the public trust and failed to act in the best interests of the Lincoln County School District by promoting actions that are adversely impacting the students and staff of the LCSD and citizens of Lincoln County." Nina Hammond is one of four people named on the recall petition as a member of the recall committee. A classified employee of LCSD for 21 years, Hammond said she is convinced that Lincoln County has enough "well-educated, intelligent and responsible people" to take over the duties of the LCSD Board of Directors. "I've talked to several people who have come up with alternative plans (which don't include contracting out services and closing community schools), if only the school board would listen," said Hammond. Recall petitions are circulating throughout Lincoln County, and recall committee members hope to have a presence at both the Nesika Illahee Pow Wow and this weekend's Toledo Summer Festival. I love that I can stay up with some of what goes on in Wallowa County, I am the daughter of Doug McDaniel and Granddaughter of the late Lawton McDaniel. I miss Wallowa County now that I live in the crazy's of Los Angeles County, but am speardheading a family union for all McDaniel, Tully, Skovlin Familes over the July 4th weekend. I am so excited to come home for Wallowa's yard sale, find old friends and see family. We all have not been together since 1988. Wallowa County is God's secret and whether you are in Wallowa, up Bear Creek, in Lostine, Enterprise, Joseph, or the Great Wallowa Lake, you can find peace and quiet. My favorite trip is up the Lostine to Chimney Lake down and then hike down to Bear Creek where I can enjoy the quiet meadow of our family cabin. Wallow County is my peace of heaven forever.

Good morning. I don't believe in intuition. When you get sudden flashes of perception, it is just the brain working faster than usual. But you've been getting ready to know it for a long time, and when it comes, you feel you've known it always. I am from France and also am speaking English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "In a competitive market, graduates need a good cv or resume to succeed in securing a job." Thank ) Quirita.

I have long moved away from there but have enjoyed reading the paper since my early childhood. Tonight while surfing the "net", i decided to check to see if it was online and to my relief it was. I thank you for the opportunity to read the paper once again, in the convenience on my laptop.

Here's our story, the legend of the seagull feather, Save you coast Tuesday, September 23, 2008 5:45 PM From:Mr Ed Johnston Here's our story, the legend of the seagull feather, Save you coast It is very relevant to our situation today on the Oregon Coast. How Gullible is the Seagull? Well, I believe by what I have read and the numerous public meeting that I have attended it will become a privilege to walk the beaches of Oregon in time. if ODFW and private interest and 501(c)3's Water shed councils and advisory committees or not stopped, neither you and I will be allowed to do so it appears they or heading in that direction. "So", every time you see a seagull feather... put it in your hat or sun visor or wear it with American PRIDE. How can genuine, Americans, born and raised here Oregon and in our culture and with knowledge of our Constitution RIGHTS, be so gullible as to give up their constitutional rights at the behest of our elected and public officials acting for their own personal, political and financial gain. While they gain, we lose our personal incomes and even our family's, our property protection and our the Constitutional rights that we as Americans are born with granted under the US Constitution OATH that the elected and some public official take to protect the USA FREEDOM and the Constitution, that our for-fathers gave Born Americans two or more generation. Also so no one mis-understands I wont to make it VERY CLEAR their are GREAT and GOOD Elected and public officials that are our employees, So give them Recognition they do SO deserved, because we need the good one that a not drain our pocket book for profit. The seagull feather is a statement now to our elected and public employees who assume the right and reasonability in raise our taxes to justify new government jobs at the financial burden of their own grandchildren as well and graduate jobs that are not in any way their duty to support. So we end up at their beckon for a modern slavery.(Dose 1776 sound formula) the ship of state broken on the rocks of greed and political manipulation, and our statutory right to use our publicly-owned coast line, and our constitutional right to "life, liberty and property and thee pursuit of happiness. Abandoned without any identifiable "due process. The law should allow all legal citizens to use our public land and illegal use by illegal Aliens should lead to arrest and deportation the same day. This would reduce the taxes on present and future generations. Most important protecting Oregon coast line REAL Home land security. Wear the seagull feather with pride. Do not to give up your freedom, and let others know about it as well. Born too our more generation Oregonians and US citizens coast, Our Constitutional Fish limit should be set at 15 fish per day for the subsidence fisherman, and hunting. So to help them to survive WHY BECOUSE WE ARE AMRICANS NOT FOREIGNERS any more, It is a fare deal two us all because as ODFW has stated that their is only 4% of us subsistence fisherman. ON Anther note, they also us the Commercial by-catch against the subsidence and sport fisherman witch is NOT RIGHT AT ALL the odds our use against the taxpayers, They Should be separated completely, Also they should bring in all of their catch to reduce destruction of our food resources. Their or other states in the Union filling for their Constitutional fishing and hunting born RIGHTS now as well. taxpayers in any County region of the state, Paying who our Privately employed, Elderly and disabled, paying property taxes for Wave energy , Fish farming, wind power, any other ideas of raising taxes, Seeing that the taxpayer could be the investors. Then shouldn't you get a 15% diva-dent on the gross back divided equally to the taxpayer of that county, for your investment for your retirement what a way for your taxes to work for you. " Ask yourself WHY can't we do this". YOU can win your freedom and you financial return on this one. So you now know our Governor Ted Kulngoski sign executive order number ,08-07 state,s that ODFW and OSU owns and controls your public coast line. Now if this is not stop in time they can charge you to walk on the coast, Charge you for their Research and development an any other changes or scientific IDEAS, in was to can close your Oregon coast line down in the name of public safety including but not limited to any human and wildlife activates . "what to do" The American born taxpayer has had no say at all over your public born right of public ownership, """Other way of modern day Marshall LAW"" LOOK AT who is on the Elected and public official and committees out to take you freedom and access away, and charge you Admission to use "Your" Oregon state publicly lands and water ways. "IN My opinion" This is worst case of Discrimination afflicted on the American born souivern worker, Elderly and Disabled and young . OH that's right we need more debt, to sell of publicly owned land to lose Your own local food resources. Remember who is controlling the Senate and House. Blame the right people who our destroying Oregonians freedom of lost of your public lands rights. An why or our publicly paid Elected and Public employees our taking away Your freedom when their our already solutions the man made problems. Americans PLEASE Read the your Treaty of 1846, please read your US Constitutional rights and Federalist papers and NAFTA TREATY. Learn the facts to make the best educated decision you can this election Believe in your for-father that gave you your freedom from TAXATION (Federal Court dissection in 2003 state you do not have to pay taxes) AND King and Queen's GAME. SO do a freedom day Beach party march 30 2009. and display you SEAGULL FATHERS for you right to use your FREE publicly owned lands. PEACE AND GOD BLESS. Call your Governor and senators and house and tell then to pass a law's to protect your Constitutional rights. OR vote them OUT. If you wont see if state ballot measure could work call 541 336 1233,, I'm disabled worker Ed Johnston www.oregontrackers.com Also I would like you help to protect yourself and you family's right to your first amendment born rights, Please ask Senator Gordly to bring back SB111 this bill protects Police, it a cover up bill, should be brought back up, AFTER NEWPORT POLICE betting I received on MARCH 2 2008, for my opinion's, "IN MY OPINOIN" For your safety I reccamend you should video or audio tape your Emploees,. Like they do to you. Thank you for your time .. PEACE AND GOD BLESS

I am curious about accessing The Chieftain's archives. Back some years ago,a story was printed on my dad, Otis Halfmoon. And it would be nice to read back to days of yore. Well back in the 40's and 50's anyway. Is this possible?
