Kaylene Elyse Fletcher-Shirley
July 18, 1944 –– March 7, 2017
Kaylene Elyse Fletcher-Shirley of Milton-Freewater, Ore., died March 7, 2017 at Providence St. Mary’s in Walla-Walla, Wash., at the age of 72.
Born July 18, 1944, in Portland to William (Bill) Fletcher and Lois “Beamer” Fletcher, Kaylene grew up in Wallowa County and was a graduate of Enterprise High School in 1962.
Kaylene married Michel L. Shirley in 1965 and spent the first years of the marriage supporting his military career and raising their growing family. After returning to civilian life, Kaylene was thrilled to return to Wallowa County to continue raising her family.
Throughout her life, Kaylene was active in her community and served in multiple roles within various groups. As a teen, she was a member of Rainbow Girls International and in her adult years, Administrative Professionals International, Al-anon and Soroptimists International.
She enjoyed traveling and trips to Thailand, Italy and Mexico, three she was able to cross off her bucket list. She also enjoyed numerous hobbies; gardening, crafting, camping with friends, fishing charters with her daughter Heather and exploration of historic ruins.
Kaylene is survived by her daughters Sharim Shirley of Phoenix, Ariz.; SandaLeigh Shirley of Caldwell, Idaho; and Heather Shirley of Milton-Freewater; brothers Gary Fletcher of Baker City, Ore.; Greg Fletcher of Wasilla, Alaska; and Lyle Fletcher of Walla Walla, Wash.; granddaughters Elyse Webb and Sharnai Lugo and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and grandson, R. Aaron Leeper.
Memorial Services for Kaylene are to be held at July 15
