Betty Ann Rutherford, 93, of Pullman, Wash., passed away at Bishop Place Retirement Community in Pullman. She was born in Imnaha to Elmer and Myrle (Ownbey) Warnock. She was raised on the family cattle ranch on the Imnaha River.
In 1942, she graduated from high school in Enterprise and attended Oregon State College. She married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Rutherford, Sept. 9, 1944, in Carlsbad, N.M., where he was stationed with the U.S. Army Air Corp. When Bruce was discharged from the service, they moved to Pullman. Bruce and Betty were married for 63 years.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother and caregiver to Bruce. She belonged to the Pullman Ladies Golf Club, PEO Chapter S and the Kapa Delta Sorority as well as the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman where she volunteered in the church’s Thrift Shop.
She also volunteered with the Pullman Hospital Auxiliary. Some of her hobbies were quilting, golfing and playing bridge. She also was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess.
Betty is survived by her three children: John (Roberta) of Pullman; Gregory (Laura) of Chewelah, Wash.; Susan (Paul) Muller of Richland, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to her husband, Bruce, she was preceded in death by her three brothers.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 in the Community Room at Bishop Place Senior Living, 815 SE Klemgard St., Pullman.
