Thomas Evan Greethurst, 66, of Enterprise, died peacefully at his home. A celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Enterprise Christian Church on Hwy. 82 between Enterprise and Joseph.
Tom was born in Seattle and adopted by Reid and Alice (Hammer) Greethurst. He grew up in Walla Walla, where he joined the Boy Scouts and began a lifelong passion for scouting before graduating from Walla Walla High School in 1969.
Tom was a proud alumnus of Washington State University where he studied range management and earned his bachelor’s of science in 1975.
From there, Tom became a rangemaster for the U.S. Forrest Service, working in Wallowa County for many years. He was also heavily involved in fighting forest fires and was a part of the Columbia Shuttle Recovery Team in 2003.
Tom married his wife, Cathy, in 2006, and they lived together in Enterprise. After his retirement, Tom and Cathy spent their time driving their RV to national parks all over the western United States.
Tom’s passions were scouting, WSU football, fishing, hiking and photography. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the Boy Scouts, and he attended every WSU football game he could.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy, of 12 years; step-children D. Bruce Ellis of Meridian, Idaho, Tiffany Prochaska of Meridian, ID and Kevin Ellis of Enterprise; 8 step-grandchildren; sister Gwen Mann of Richland, Wash.; nephew David, and niece Corynn; and sister-in-law Carol.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Reid and Alice, and his Aunt Laura Mae.
