Joyce Marie Tompkins was born in Albany, Ore., to Charles and Ilene Tompkins. She passed away at Wallowa Memorial Hospital.
Joyce lived in the Albany/Lebanon area before moving to Fort Rock at the age of seven. She attended Fort Rock Elementary and Paisley High School.
In 1971, she graduated from high school as the junior and senior prom queen and class valedictorian. Joyce went on to study nursing at Eastern Oregon State College and OIT.
Joyce helped with farm harvest and did office and CNA work during her summers. She became disabled in her early 20s. She lived several places, with her last residences being Pendleton, La Grande and Wallowa.
Joyce had many interests and enjoyed listening to music and singing, cooking, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, coloring and flowers. Her faith in God was important to her.
Joyce loved her family and friends very much and was conscientious about keeping in touch with those far away. Her sweet, thoughtful spirit and generosity will be remembered by many. Joyce had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Joyce is survived by her mother, Ilene Tompkins of Hermiston, Ore.; siblings David Tompkins of Yakima, Wash.; Charles Neal Tompkins of Everett, Wash.; Judy Tompkins of Hermiston; and Cheryl Faulk of La Grande.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and various other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Tompkins in 2000 and her sister-in-law Patricia Tompkins in 2002.
A celebration of life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Hermiston Church of the Nazarene, 1520 W. Orchard Avenue, Hermiston. A reception will follow.
