Health Tip of the Week: Preventing food-borne illnesses

To prevent food-borne illnesses like salmonella and listeria:

• Cook all meat and poultry thoroughly

• Reheat leftovers until steaming hot

• Wash or peel raw vegetables

• Do not buy unpasteurized milk or dairy products

• Follow "keep refrigerated" instructions and "sell by" and "use by" dates

• Wash hands, knives and cutting boards often when handling food
