The call is out for all youngsters 15 and under to enter the Chief Joseph Days Junior Parade - usually referred to as the "kiddie parade."
Many regulars say the 10 a.m. Friday parade is their favorite part of the CJD celebration every year, and the kids look like they are having fun vying for cash prizes in eight divisions.
Visitors as well as local children are invited to take part in the parade - just show up to register at 9 a.m. Friday on the south side of the Indian Lodge Motel on Main Street in Joseph. Each child who enters will receive a $1 discount coupon for the Davis Shows carnival.
The entries also have a chance to win $5 to $15 cash if they place in the top three places of the following categories: Small Fry, Costumes (two age divisions), Wheels, Floats, Marching Groups, Single Rider and Riding Groups. The Joseph Chamber of Commerce contributed the cash prizes.
The grand prize for the entry the judges vote as the best in the parade is a mountain bicycle, donated by Coca Cola Bottling of La Grande.
Creativity is a hallmark of the kiddie parade, where entries usually include mini-cowboys, bullfighters, rodeo courts, nursery rhyme and cartoon characters, circus performers, assorted animals (both real and costumes), pioneers and much, much more.
