Marilyn Smith, 63, of La Grande was hospitalized Monday afternoon after being involved in a two car collision seven miles west of Wallowa on Hwy. 82 along the Wallowa River. Smith had just purchased a 2002 PT Cruiser less than one hour before in Enterprise. According to undersheriff Steve Rogers the new auto appeared to be totaled.
Smith was hospitalized at Wallowa Memorial Hospital then transported to a hospital in Lewiston. Rogers reported Tuesday that Smith was not seriously injured.
Rogers was of the opinion that Smith had crossed the center line on a sweeping curve and sideswiped a 1987 Suburban driven by 42 year old Wayne Wherley of La Grande. Neither Wherley nor his three passengers were injured.
The accident occurred at 12:45 p.m. Rogers did not know whether or not any citations would be issued.
First on the scene was Smith's husband who was following his wife home after the purchase of the new vehicle.
Responding to the alarm were the Wallowa ambulance unit, Wallowa Fire Department's Jaws of Life and three Wallowa County police officers.
Rogers said the Suburban was heavily damaged, but probably not totaled.
