Initiative would require sixth graders study firearms safety

A Senate committee has given its OK to a measure that includes the provisions of Measure 114, the gun-control measure voters narrowly approved in November. The measure currently is the subject of a court challenge in Harney County Circuit Court.

Gun bills are back on the agenda of the Oregon Legislature this year.

The bills were the subject of a public hearing Wednesday, March 22, by the House Judiciary Committee, which plans to deal with them on March 28. (The March 28 meeting will take place after the Chieftain’s print deadline; watch our website, wallowa.com, for updates.)
