Be ready to run. Homes in the Level 1 evacuation area in the upper Hurricane Creek Road area have been advised that they are now Level 2 (be ready to run). More homes east and north of the Hurricane Creek Road are now under Level One evacuation orders.

According to Wallowa Whitman National Forest Public Information Officer Tony King, the Fall Creek Fire has not grown overnight, but he cautions that it may spread in the next two days.

“It’s about preparedness,” King said. “Strong winds from the south and southwest are predicted so we’re taking a proactive stance.”

The new Level 1 order is for the area west of Airway Road and north to West Russel Lane. Heading west on Russel Lane to Hurricane Creek Road and west of Hurricane Creek Road to Langston Road. South to Pine Tree Lane where it intersects with Langston and then a line drawn due west to National Forest.

No map is available, yet, but individuals who suspect they are in the Level 1 area can call Wallowa County Communications Center at 541-426-3131.

Joseph Fire Department continues to lead efforts to protect the homes in the new Level 1 area and have issued a call to other emergency and fire departments for pumps and hoses.

The USFS is holding another Falls Creek Fire informational meeting at the Joseph Community Center at 2 p.m. today (Aug. 28).
