JOSEPH — Learn to play the mountain dulcimer during a workshop taught by nationally known instructor Heidi Muller from Jan. 29 to Feb. 26, at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture in Joseph.
The $150 class will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. The class includes instrument rentals for $50. To reserve a rental, email Muller at heidi.muller.music@gmail.com.
The mountain dulcimer is a sweet-sounding, three-stringed instrument with roots in the Appalachian Mountains. It’s easy to learn, with no musical experience required. Muller will teach the basics and students can typically play one or two simple songs after the first lesson. Music will include traditional tunes and familiar songs, as students progress from one-finger melodies to using chords.
Muller, from Joseph, hosts Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas every July, and has produced numerous CDs and tune books. For more information, visit heidimuller.com.
