ENTERPRISE — Nobody reported seeing their shadow, but more than $2,400 was raised Thursday, Feb. 2, for scholarships to be handed out by the Wallowa County Fair Board.
The money was raised during the annual Groundhogs Day dinner, held at the Cloverleaf Hall in Enterprise. The event included a pancake-and-sausage dinner, bingo and auctioned desserts.
“We had a pretty good turnout this year,” said Tony Boyd, the board’s manager.
He said about 140 people attended the event.
Board Chairwoman Brinda Stanley noted that the board is back in the swing of things, having held the event last year after having to take 2021 off because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In fact, the event raised more this year than usual.
“We usually raise $1,200-$1,500 for the scholarships,” Stanley said.
The scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors at each of the high schools in Wallowa County, she said.
