Summer changed into autumn with a vengence last weekend, just in time to observe Wallowa County's last two big events of the visitor season - the venerable Alpenfest celebration at Wallowa Lake and the Nez Perce in the Wallowa art show/auction and dinner, held at Wallowa Lake Lodge and Joseph Community Center.

Snow coated the ground at Alpenfest Saturday morning, adding spice for a hungry crowd at the traditional blueberry breakfast inside Edelweiss Inn. The popular three-day Bavarian event started Friday and finished up Sunday.

The annual Nez Perce art show and auction brought in $18,000 in art sales at the silent and oral auctions from about 75 bidders, with the majority of the proceeds going to the artists and a commission to the Wallowa Band Nez Perce Interpretive Center for its activities.
