The Joseph branch of Community Bank was dealing with an unusual problem early this week - a vault that wouldn't open.

"We're trying to resolve the problem now," said security specialist Cindy Anderson Monday afternoon. She said that the bank hasn't been able to open the vault since last Friday morning, and wasn't exactly sure when it would fixed. "It depends on what the problem is," she said.

Due to security concerns, Anderson declined to discuss the type of vault the bank has, or what exactly is contained in it. However, she confirmed customers' reports that individual security deposit boxes are in the vault.

One of those customers was Sonny Settergren of rural Enterprise, who visited the bank on Friday and Monday to access his security deposit box. He said that he was told that clocks inside the vault door were apparently malfunctioning and that an expert from the safe manufacturer was expected Tuesday.

A bank employee said the vault was expected to be repaired Tuesday.

"We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience," Anderson said.
