Business coach expands her tool set

Wallowa County Business Facilitator Catherine Matthias recently returned from Colorado where she attended a workshop to enhance her abilities to help young businesses from Wallowa County succeed.

Entitled “Destination BootCamp,” the intense 20 hours of training under the leadership of Jon Schallert focused on new tools to improve business, ways to attract new customers, and novel techniques to coach the owners of other businesses.

Matthias only has been at the helm of Wallowa County Business Facilitation since 2011. She assumed that post from Myron Kirkpatrick, the only other business coach the free-of-charge entity has had since its inception in 2001.

The confidential business-counseling service has touched many local businesses and individuals during the past 12 years. Counting clients as businesses and not people, an estimated 800 clients have approached Kirkpatrick and now Matthias since 2001, generating about 115 new businesses and more than 200 jobs.

The average number of visitations local entrepreneurs make to the Wallowa County business facilitator ranges from three to seven, says Matthias.
