Joseph Fire Chief Tom Clevenger is planning to pick up Joseph’s brand new 4-wheel-drive fire engine from the Pierce Plant in Bradenton, Fla., next week.

Clevenger said he will fly out of Boise, Idaho, early Sunday morning, Aug. 19, for Florida.

“I have reviewed all the photos of the build process, and it appears everything has been done to our specifications,” said Clevenger, who plans to conduct his own inspection before heading home on a long, solo drive from Florida to Joseph.

In February, Joseph was awarded a grant of $247,475 to purchase the fire truck from Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. Joseph is responsible for a $13,025 match in the project. Included in the grant was $5,500 for city firefighter training.

“I should be home the first week in September,” Clevenger said.
