Children’s book author  visits local classrooms

Judy Cox of Ontario, the author of numerous children’s books, visited Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa elementary classrooms recently, courtesy of the Artists in the Schools Program sponsored by Wallowa Valley Arts Council.

Her presentations on April 8 and 9 included the process of writing a children’s book. In some presentations she read one of her books and the kids created a group story.

Cox, a retired elementary teacher, has published more than 20 short stories in magazines such as Cricket, Spider, and Highlights, and 22 books, including “Don’t Be Silly, Mrs. Millie!” and “The Secret Chicken Society.”

Her books have been honored with several awards including the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award, Anne Izard Storytellers’ Choice Award, Nevada Young Readers Award, and two Time Magazine Top Ten Children’s Books.
