Beginning and advanced birdwatchers alike are encouraged to participate in a Christmas Bird Count in Wallowa County during the holiday season.

There are two local counts in this 109th year of the Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count (CBC) program. The 33rd annual Wallowa County bird count, which includes the area around Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa Lake, set for Sunday, Dec. 14; and the Troy Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Those who take part in the Dec. 14 count are asked to meet at Friends' Restaurant in Enterprise at 7 a.m. The restaurant opens at 6 a.m. for those who want breakfast. Everyone will break into groups, and depart soon after to count birds. The groups will convene for lunch at noon at Lear's Main Street Pub and Grill to review areas covered. Call Andie Lueders at 426-5740 for more information. Dress warmly and bring binoculars.

Those who want to take part in the Troy count are asked to call Vic Coggins at 426-3279 for details and a route map.
