On Saturday morning, April 25, a volunteers group from The Crossing Church arrived to help Wallowa School District upgrade the school grounds.

Church members helped prune or remove a number of trees and shrubs along Highway 82 and in front of the high school.

Equipment donated by M and R Rental and Sales of Wallowa was a great help in getting the job done safely, according to Wallowa High School Principal John Nesemann.

One longtime Wallowa resident noted that much of the planting was originally done by the high school's forestry class, taught by Dale Story, in the early 1970s.

The maturity of many of the plants reportedly made them impossible to trim.

The school is working with current students to select replacement shrubbery.
