String Helix was formed during September of 2002 in La Grande Oregon. Founders Luke McKern and Jesse Jones met in the halls of Eastern Oregon University while auditioning of the music program. Luke and Jesse began writing together and it wasn't long before they had compiled a wealth of Guitar-Mandolin duets which ultimately found their way to the stage of "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keillor and Wintergrass in Tacoma, Wash.

Their music is strongly influenced by classical, acoustic, and ethnic music.

This blending of musical styles directs their unique sound and compositional approach. When it came time to put together a rhythm section they were fortunate to begin working with jazz and classical bassist Jack Neidermann.

The diversity of the band was further expanded when they were joined on percussion by master drummer Curt Perry. With thoughtful arrangements, strong vocals, unique instrumentation and quality musicianship, String Helix has been winning over audiences where ever they perform.
