There's some good news in the Wallowa County employment picture with the recent release of February figures.

While still high at 14.3 percent, the jobless rate was down from 14.6 percent in January and also lower than the 15.7 percent posted in February of 2003.

This February there were a total of 2,865 workers employed in a labor force of 3,345, or 480 persons without jobs. Those figures reflect a gain of 56 jobs since January and also an increase of 41 jobs since last February.

Oregon's rate was 7.1 percent and the U.S.'s 6.0 percent in February.
