Work has begun on a project to replace the bridge on Fish Hatchery Lane near Highway 82.

From now until the project is completed, Fish Hatchery Lane will be closed from Highway 82, south to the Y intersection of Fish Hatchery Lane, Powers Road and Homan Lane, Wallowa County Public Works director Russ McMartin said.

McMartin said the project is expected to run until the early part of July.

Project funding is through the Oregon Transportation Investment Act III Bridge Delivery Program.

McMartin said the existing bridge was rated for loads not to exceed 13 tons, but the new bridge will not be load-rated.

The legal limit for commercial vehicles is 80,000 pounds.

McMartin said work on the project is split between Wallowa County crews and equipment, and subcontractors.
