The finale of Fishtrap's Big Read, which featured Jack London's "Call of the Wild," ended Sunday evening with a huge feed at Hurricane Grange. Eric Walker supplied the universally acclaimed cooked venison and was awarded Fishtrap bookends and a selection of the books read this year, and Grange Ladies supplied the amazing selection of pies. Janie Tippett won the photography award for the hilarious photo of her dog Hallie mesmerized by the reading of "Call of the Wild." Her prize is a drawing of Hallie by Mary Northon. Mike Hayward won second place and a $50 gift certificate from Enterprise veterinarian Jerald Rice in that contest with his dog Scout and Danelle Sidoti won a bag of dog-food from Red Barn Veterinary with her third-place photo of Daisy. Award-winning storytellers April Curtis and Michael Minthorn not only entertained the crowd with their traditional stories of the adventures of Coyote, but sucked them into the stories and got them howling like Coyote. Craig Nichols of Enterprise served as auctioneer for the Coyote bronze created by Ed Pitts and sold it (after brisk bidding) to Jean Grandi for $300.
