4-H members compete at Spring Fair

Approximately 60 4-H members competed in events at the Wallowa County 4-H Spring Fair held June 27-28 at the fairgrounds. Spring fair focused on cooking and sewing competitions, oral presentations, archery and the fashion revue.

Awards for the fair were presented at the public fashion revue and awards ceremony on June 28.

Following are winners in all events.

Tablesetting - Champion junior, Katelynn Burns, received a $20 gift certificate from Cup of Blessings. Champion intermediate member, Joscelyn Stangel, received a gift certificate from Enterprise Stationery. Champion Senior member, Katrina Anderson, received a $15 cash award sponsored by Liberty Grange GWA.

Cooking - Best Junior Cook, Jessica Bruha, received a $10 gift certificate from the Bookloft from Hurricane Creek Grange GWA; Best Intermediate Cook, Heather Bruce, received "Joy of Cooking" from The Bookloft; Best Senior Cook, Krista Stangel, received a cookbook from Kris & Chuck Fraser.

Blue ribbon members emphasizing a dairy product in the dish they prepared received $20 cash from the Oregon Dairy Women: Shelby Harshman, Sara Freels, Heather Bruce and Jessica Bruha. Sierra Hopkins earned a $5 cash award sponsored by Ed and Carol Wallace for using beef in a dish she prepared. Heather Bruce earned a $5 cash award from Wallowa Co. Stockgrowers for the best beef mini-meal. Sara Freels received a $5 Oregon Pork Producers cash award for using Pork in her food contest.

Measuring Skills Contest - Champion first year junior Stephanie George, received an assortment of Measuring Utensils from Norman Arts, Tim and Nickie Norman.

Presentations - Individual presentation champions: Junior, Cody Arbogast (award sponsored by Wallowa County Fair Board); Intermediate, Shelby Harshman (award by Ella Daggett); senior, Madeline Smith (award by Alpine Insurance). Team champions: intermediates, Sierra Hopkins and Alex McCadden (award by Dr. Gary Underhill); seniors, Rayanna Mitchell and Katrina Anderson (Harley and Agnes Caudle Award by Rhee Lathrop and Arlyne Makin). Presentation champions all received plaques.

Fashion Revue - Champions: first-year junior, Emily Howerton (trophy sponsored by Cloud 9 Bakery); junior champion, Olivia Woods (trophy by Liberty Grange; Intermediate, Karla Wilsey (award by South Fork Grange). Senior, Rayanna Mitchell (award sponsored by Liberty Grange). Trophies went to fashion revue champions.

Archery tournament - Class 1: champion, Luke Patrick; reserve champion, Cody Arbogast; blue: John Green. Class 2: champion, Stefan Quarry; res. champion, Claire Carper. Class 3: champion, Kyle Stangel; res. champion, Kyle Hogg; blue, Mickey Stenkamp. Class 6: High Point Archer, Jared Zwanziger, received a trophy sponsored by Don and Bessie Rynearson; Most Improved Archer, Kyle Hogg, received a trophy sponsored by South Fork Grange.
