Hospital board goes to Plan B

The proposed new residential care facility planned for land near the hospital in Enterprise would have private rooms and a more home-like atmosphere.

Many residents were surprised to learn that unless the hospital levy measure passes when it comes up again in the May special election, Wallowa Valley Care Center will have to close in June.

But given the heavy cost of continuing to run the aging facility as a federally regulated nursing home under the auspices of Wallowa Memorial Hospital, hospital board members reluctantly decided that without community support, they would have no choice.
