The first wave of paving on the seven-mile Hurricane Creek Road project between Enterprise and Joseph is scheduled to begin Thursday or Friday, Aug. 22 or 23, says Oregon Department of Transportation project inspector John Linder.

He says contractor Kerr Contractors Inc., of Woodburn, will begin paving driveways and approaches to Hurricane Creek Road at that time and begin paving the thoroughfare itself Monday, Aug. 26.

Because work is ahead of schedule, it will begin sooner than September.Linder says paving will begin at the Enterprise end of the project and be ceased Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Aug. 31-Sept. 2) for the Labor Day holiday.

Grading work on the job is done and the laying of rock that follows will be completed before paving begins, says Linder.

Paving is expected to take about eight working days from start to finish, after which various subcontractors will arrive to stripe the road and erect both signs and guardrails.

Because subcontractors are busy this time of year, meaning time could lapse between Kerr’s conclusion of paving work and the arrival of subcontractors, final touches on the approximately $5 million road improvement project might not be made before October, according to Linder.
