There will be a very long Independence Holiday weekend celebration in Wallowa County in the next few days with activities starting with a bang on Wednesday, July 4.

Here’s a brief schedule of holiday activities which extend through Saturday, July 7. See Community Calendar on Page A6 for other events during the week.

• July 4-7 – The 39th annual Lostine Flea Market, with booths opening at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Breakfasts will be served at South Fork Grange from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. every morning in downtown Lostine. The popular Lostine River Run starts Saturday at 9 a.m.; registration and the finish line will be at Providence Academy.

• July 4 – Wallowa Old-Time Fourth of July, 11 a.m., parade in downtown Wallowa followed by a barbecue and outdoor market.

July 4 – Shake the Lake fireworks, set to go off at dark (about 9:30-10 p.m.) at the north end of Wallowa Lake. Lots of people will gather early to enjoy refreshments, bratwurst sandwiches from the Joseph Chamber of Commerce. Parking is always a challenge, so be patient.

• July 7 – Troy Independence Day Celebration, starting at noon. Cribbage and horseshoe tournaments, small bore shooting competition, silent and live auctions, parade, live music and fireworks.
