To the Editor:

In 2002, there was no organized effort in Wallowa County for the community support of our Armed Forces. There was a God led call on my heart to do something about it. Since that time it has been my distinct privilege and honor to have originated and maintained the “Wallowa County Military Roster.” Over the past nine years our local Wallowa County Armed Forces members along with those who hold strong family connections in Wallowa County have had their names and addresses listed on the roster. The monthly average through the years of those in active service has been 135 –140, with an overall total of at least 275. The military roster has made it possible for them to receive support through many different projects our local citizens have provided.

Copies of the roster were always available at Enterprise Christian Church, plus other churches when requested. I have been happy to make copies available to Karen Raminha, founder and administrator of Home Town Heroes Support Group, plus inform her of any overseas movement taking place in between the regular printing of the roster. In addition, I faxed the roster to all three of our county schools, the VFW, Veterans Administration, The Chieftain, and KWVR as requested under the ownership of Lee and Carol-Lee Perkins.

December 2011, my life changed - quite unexpectedly - in such a way that it is impossible for me to continue this very important work. It has been an amazing experience to become acquainted with the outstanding men and women serving our country during these times of war. I offer my sincere gratitude to all who have and those who continue to serve, including their families. They have generously opened their hearts to assist in helping me keep the information as accurate as military life allows. I am deeply grateful to God for calling me to originate and continue this support for all these years. It is indeed impossible to describe the blessing it has been in my life.

It is my hope and prayer that the “Wallowa County Military Roster” will continue to be maintained and made available to all who wish to honor and support our local Armed Forces Members.

The men and women in uniform and their families will always remain in my heart and in my prayers. May God bless and protect them and their families.
