About 10 wrestlers each from Enterprise and Joseph competed in the 15-team Baker Brawl held Friday, Feb. 1 for wrestlers grades six through eight.
A squad from Ontario won the team title with 208 points, while Enterprise grapplers placed fifth team-wise with 115.5 points and the unit from Joseph tallied 92 points and earned seventh place as a team.
Wallowa junior high school does not have a wrestling team, said Troy Farwell, a man well-tuned into the local youth wrestling scene as coach of the Northeast Oregon Wrestling Club.
Of the 19 kids who competed from the two local schools and wrestled anywhere between two to four times, only one wrestlereighth grader Nate Anton, of Enterprise, escaped competition without one loss. Anton wrestled in the 85 lb. classification.
Also competing for Enterprise that Friday in Baker City in addition to Anton were Claine Miller, at 80 lbs.; Dylan Staigle, Cole Farwell, and Nathaniel Diamond, at 85 lbs.; Zyler Hermans and Coy Aschenbrenner, at 102 lbs.; Arron Schaafsma, at 110 lbs.; Brett Greenshields, at 117 lbs.; and Patrick Powers, at 140 lbs.
Wrestling for Joseph Junior High School were Steve Beckman and Justice McQuon, at 75 lbs.; Kade Kilgore, at 80 lbs.; T.J. Grote, at 85 lbs.; Joah VanDoozer, at 90 lbs.; Lane Beske and Trey Wandschneider, at 95 lbs.; Calum Wilcox, at 132 lbs.; and Ethan Mathews, at 150 lbs.
