The Enterprise FFA Chapter and Enterprise Les Schwab Center have teamed up to launch a local food drive to help meet the needs of our community. The local drive is part of a statewide initiative sponsored by FFA and Les Schwab.

To participate, you can pick up paper food bags at the front desk at the Les Schwab Center, 802 NW 1st St. in Enterprise and return the bag filled with your donation on non-perishable items by Oct. 31. A limited number of bags also are available at the offices of The Chieftain, 209 NW 1st St. in Enterprise.

The initiative is part of the FFA’s core purpose of “Living to Serve,” part of the FFA motto “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live and Living to Serve.” Les Schwab Tire Centers partnered with the Oregon FFA in 2011, when state budget cuts threatened FFA’s survival in Oregon.

Since the recession of 2008, the Oregon Food Bank has seen a 41 percent increase in the need for food box distribution. According to a FFA press release, an average of 270,000 people receive meals each month from the food bank and 92,000 of those are children.
