WALLOWA — For five hours on Saturday, July 11, residents of Wallowa will have the opportunity to dispose of many unwanted items, including many types of hazardous waste, at no charge.

The Second Annual Wallowa Cleanup Day will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on that day with manned collection bins set on city property along north Pine Street southwest of Henderson Fuel and south of Kevin’s Tire Shop.

Household garbage and tires will not be accepted, but many other items will.

Just east of the collection site, as is the norm, Wallowa County’s recycle bins will be available to collect plastic, cardboard, tin cans, newspaper/magazines, and glass.

For those five hours, however, bins will be available to accept wood, yard debris, old furniture, and many other items cluttering one’s yard, home, garage, or shed.

Hazardous wastes that will be accepted include oil-base paints, insecticides, herbicides, aerosol spray cans, household cleaners, poisons, acids, corrosives, flammables, and unknowns.

The refuse can be taken to the collection site or arrangements can be made to pick it up by phoning 541-786-7046, the same number to call for additional information.

More volunteers are wanted. You can call in advance or simply arrive that Saturday.
