Tom and Dorothy (Hockett) Hinton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, March 27, with family and friends with a potluck dinner and dance starting at 6 p.m. at the Milton-Freewater Junior Show Grounds.
Both Tom and Dorothy were born in Wallowa County. She moved to Hermiston during elementary school and graduated from Hermiston High School, while he was raised in the county and graduated from Wallowa High School.
They reconnected while Dorothy was working at Hot Lake near La Grande, and Tom came to visit his father, a patient there.
They were married at Hot Lake on March 27, 1960, and live in Milton-Freewater.
Tom worked for Western Farmers Association and Walla Walla Farmers Co-op, retiring in 1998. Dorothy was a nurse at Hot Lake and later St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, retiring in 1999.
He played guitar for Stateline Grange dances for more than 45 years, still plays occasionally for various events and enjoys volunteering at area stock shows.
She has been an active member in the Pythian Sisters and Fruitvale Extension Group. Both have been involved in the FFA Alumni Association and belong to First Christian Church.
The couple has two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Steve Timmons and Charlotte and Steve Birdwell, all of Milton-Freewater, and four grandchildren.
