Local man seriously injured in Hwy 97 crash

Caden Jay Christman, 19, Enterprise, suffered serious injuries in an Aug. 7 crash on Hwy 97 neat Moro. According to Oregon State Police, a northbound Christman, driving a 2005 Audi A5 was passing traffic in the southbound lane when he struck a southbound 2012 Volvo semi-truck and trailer head-on.

The resulting crash left the truck and trailer on the northbound shoulder leaking fuel from ruptured tanks, while the Audi turned over, resting in the southbound ditch. Christman was critically injured and was airlifted to Emmanuel Legacy Hospital in Portland. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

According to OSP, evidence found in the Audi indicated illegal controlled substance abuse by Christman. The case was referred to the Sherman County District Attorney with charges of reckless driving and possession of heroin pending.
