WALLOWA – David Schmidt, who with wife Jesse owns Integrated Biomass Resources (IBR), a firm located about three miles northwest of Wallowa, said that for some time he has been three people short of completing one shift at the former Wallowa Forest Products mill site. He doesn’t know if the company’s drug policy is dissuading prospective applicants, or if the closure of the Oregon Employment Office in Enterprise earlier this year is a factor, but whatever the cause, today IBR has jobs available and no one to fill them.

IBR currently employs about 25 people to produce kiln-treated, bug-free firewood; peeled poles; high-quality paper chips; 100 percent wood energy logs; and more.
