Firefighting crews have now attained 90 percent containment on the Mud Fire north of Enterprise, a public information officer for the interagency team fighting the blaze reported Friday.
The fire has burned 103 acres.
Fire line construction was completed July 26. Mop-up operations are under way. All burning material near the fire line is being extinguished to prevent a rekindle or possible escape. Personnel start from the fire line and mop-up into the interior of the fire.
The steep terrain continues to pose a safety concern, especially from rolling rocks and other material. To mitigate the risk, the number of firefighters involved in the mop-up has been reduced so crew members won't be as likely to start materials rolling toward one another. Two 20-person crews were being sent home Friday, leaving a force of 106.
The fire is south of Kuhn Ridge Road and west of Highway 3, about 20 miles north of Enterprise.
