Bids from eight different contractors were opened Tuesday morning, April 16, in La Grande, in competition for a contract to widen and upgrade the surface of Hurricane Creek Road between Enterprise and Joseph.

The apparent low bidder for that project is Kerr Contractors Inc., of Woodburn that submitted a bid of $2,767,186.90.

The second low bidder was Tidewater Contracting Inc., of Brookings. That company bid $2,767,467.58.

Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Strandberg says work could begin in May and, by contract, must be completed before Nov. 1, 2013.
