Phi Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority began its calendar year on Sept. 12 with a cookout at the ranch home of Connie Steen. Adhering to the 2002 international theme "Gateway to Friendship", guests were invited. Those in attendance were treated to a novelty meal consisting of Cream Can Stew, which was actually cooked in a cream can over a charcoal fire, and Paper Bag Apple Pie, which had been baked in the oven in a brown paper bag. Recipes were shared.

Officers for the coming year are: Co-Presidents Connie Steen and Bev Connolly; Vice President Jane Williams; Recording Secretary Ann Hayes; Corresponding Secretary Ruby Zollman; Treasurer Phyllis Webb and Extension Officer Patti Maier.

Following a brief business meeting the co-presidents reported on the state convention in Coos Bay which they attended in June.

The chapter was listed in the most recent copy of The Torch, the magazine for Beta Sigma members, as a Three-Star chapter. It was also noted that there are 10,067 active chapters throughout the world.

Phyllis Webb hosted the next meeting on Sept. 26.
