The Best of 2012 Pie Bake-Off and Taste-Off, a pie tasting competition, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmers Market in Joseph Saturday, Aug. 4.

The contest is a fundraiser for the Wallowa County Farmers’ Market and the Wallowa County Museum, which are jointly hosting the event.

The baker of the pie voted tastiest of all will win a $25 farmers’ market gift certificate.

Pie slices and whole pies will also be for sale during the event.

The contest will be a great opportunity to celebrate the taste of summer with seasonal ingredients, as well as for participants to share recipes, get new ideas for baking great pies, and vote for their favorites.

“Pies are a natural match for the Farmer’s Market and the Wallowa County Museum,” said Darlene Turner of the museum board of directors. “We love to bake pies, they love to bake pies, and we all love to eat pie!”

The Joseph farmers’ market is located in the parking lot of the Baptist Church on Main Street. The market also features vendors selling locally grown produce, meat, eggs and other products.

The farmers’ market takes place Thursdays in Enterprise from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays in Joseph from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All pie baking contestants are asked to deliver their pies to Ellen at the Flavor Booth by 10 a.m. on the day of the contest. Tasting and voting will run until noon.

For more information about the contest, call Ellen De Young at 541-398-0274.
