JOSEPH – Cooking demonstrations and children’s activities, including a petting zoo, will be featured as the Wallowa County Farmers’ Market launches the 2013 season Saturday, May 25, with its traditional Spring Planting Festival in downtown Joseph.

Vendors will be selling vegetable and ornamental plants, local produce, baked goods and crafts. The market opens at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at Main and Joseph streets.

A seed swap is also planned. Market-goers are encouraged to bring garden seeds and exchange them for other seeds. This way gardeners can find the seeds they’ve been looking for, while sharing their excess seeds with others.

The Saturday market in Joseph will take place through Oct. 12 except for the weekends of Chief Joseph Days and the Bronze Bike Rendezvous.

In Enterprise, the Thursday market on the Wallowa County Courthouse lawn opens June 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. and runs through Sept. 19, in conjunction with the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance’s Courthouse Concert Series.

Both the Joseph and Enterprise farmers’ markets gladly accept SNAP/EBT.

The market is always looking for new vendors. Potential vendors should contact market manager Janie Webster for more information at or 541-263-1622. There is also a website with special events on the Wallowa County Farmers’ Market website.
