JOSEPH – Santa Claus seemed to be having a lot of fun at the Santa Paws event, hosted by the Wallowa County Humane Society last weekend during the Jingle thru Joseph Bazaar at the Community Center.

“We try to come every year,” said Carolyn Strohm of Enterprise, who posed for a photo taken by photographer Frances Buckles with husband Jim and dogs Daisy and Crissy Saturday morning.

In addition to the usual dogs, cats and a pony – standing patiently outside the door for youngsters who wanted to sit on him – this year Santa Paws played host to his first guinea pig, Clarky, owned by LeAnna Scott, 5, of Enterprise. The guinea pig and little girl, joined her older brother, Cole, and dog Rio, for a pose together with St. Nick.

Animals and their keepers came from all over Wallowa County for the annual photo event, which raises money for the humane society’s many projects, including taking care of unwanted dogs and cats before adoption.
