U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, (D) of Oregon, will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday, May 30th at the South Fork Grange, in Lostine.

The event is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Merkley made local news recently when he launched a counterattack against President Barack Obama’s plan to nix the National Guard Counterdrug Program, which Wallowa County Sheriff Fred Steen calls one of the best ways to locate marijuana grows.

In the program that could be eliminated as soon as October, National Guard helicopters fly over six states, including Oregon and locally over Wallowa County, overseeing public and some private lands where illegal grow operations might be placed.
