Short-term fix likely for county

Mike Hayward

Buried within the bowels of the $120 billion Transportation Bill winding its way through the U.S. Congress are two short-term revenue fixes for Wallowa County.

That bill, which has passed the House and is expected to gain Senate approval and President ObamaÂ’s signature, includes about $625,000 in Secure Rural Schools (SRS) payments to Wallowa County and nearly $400,000 in Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) revenue.
