After six years of running the Subway franchise in Enterprise, Jill Moncrief has decided to call it quits.

"It just wasn't working out for her," said husband Mark Moncrief, who helped out at the sandwich shop part of the time while still maintaining his outfitting and guide business.

The business has had a 'closed for remodeling' sign on the door for more than a month, a sign placed on the door by the Connecticut corporation's regional development agent out of Meridian, Idaho, according to Moncrief. Moncrief said his wife has been trying to sell the franchise for the past two years and that neither he nor Jill know whether the business will re-open under new management.

Interested potential buyers have been directed to the Meridian office.

During the past six years Jill Moncrief has employed from six to eight persons. Hurting the business effort has been the seasonal nature of Wallowa County's economy. "Winter just kills you," said Moncrief. "It is hard to make a living on four to five months of the year."
