The Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce will host its 24th annual Outstanding Citizen Awards Banquet Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Joseph Community Center. The theme for the banquet is "Youth: Rainbow of the Future."
This year's master of ceremonies will be Bob Williams, keynote speaker will be Jessie Hayward, entertainment will be provided by the Wallowa High School Choir, the flag presentation will be performed by the Enterprise FFA and the stage back drop will be created by the Joseph High School art program.
Banquet tickets this year are $23 each and can be purchased through the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will sell fast, so persons interested in attending should contact Amy Johnson at the chamber office to purchase tickets in advance.
Individuals interested in sponsoring a table for the banquet are asked to contact the Chamber right away. There are still three table sponsorships available. Being a table sponsor is a great opportunity to show your creativity in decorations and meet merchants of the area.
Citizen's award nominations have been collected. The award categories are: agriculture, business, civic, education, forestry, youth leaders (young man and woman), and unsung hero. The Youth Leader Award was started last year as a new award item for the banquet. Recognizing those individuals who gives that "extra measure" to their community is an honor and it gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation, according to Chamber director, Vicki Rosgen.
The following persons were nominated for awards: Jim and Denny Dawson, Cathy Johnson, Ben Boswell, David Hockett, Edward Jensen, Jennifer Klimza, Rick Hansen, Meg Mitchell, Bud Botts, Melvin Davis, Peter Donovan, Carolyn Gilbert, Gladys Kinsley, Joe Town, Austin Himes, Kelsey Lukens, John Schmidt, Matt Williams, Jessie Botham, Jacinda Mitchell and Lynique Oveson.
