A drawing for a trophy mule deer hunt on the Zumwalt Prairie Reserve has earned VFW Eagle Cap Post #4307 nearly $10,000 for its home renovation fund.

David Fuller of Prineville won the hunt, which centers around a 2010 landowner preference tag donated by The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The October hunt will be guided by Cory Miller, who donated his services. Fuller will be hosted at a traditional deer camp with all the amenities, including camp meals and campfire camaraderie provided by VFW members.

To date the $10,000 represents the highest gross amount raised by one of TNC mule tag donations.

The raffle drawing was held at a gala celebration dinner at the Bill Beaudoin Memorial Veterans Hall in Enterprise Feb. 1.

The winner said he'd purchased only six tickets for the raffle.

"We are overwhelmed by the generosity of The Nature Conservancy and especially by the fact that Cory and Dena Miller have found it in their hearts to give back to their community," Acting Commander Cathy Cleary said. "Their guide services for all four hunts that TNC have sponsored will be free of charge to the charitable organizations involved."
