The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest lifted the Standley Ridge Trail (#1677) closure effective Friday, Oct. 23.

The Standley Ridge Trail is within the Big Sheep Ridge Fire area southeast of Minam and extends from Bearwallow Trailhead to the Standley Guard Station.

Hunters, hikers, and campers entering the burned area need to be aware of the potential risk of falling trees and snags. Trees weakened or killed by fire sometimes topple without warning.

For additional information on trail and road conditions call the Wallowa Mountains office at 541-426-5546 or visit the web at (www.fs.fed.us/r6/w-w).
