Wallowa County hires Lathrop as executive assistant

Sandy Lathrop

Sandy Lathrop was introduced Monday as new executive assistant to the Wallowa County Board of Commissioners during a regular board meeting. She replaces Suzanne Bauck, who held the position for four years and has moved to Redmond.

Lathrop started her new job Tuesday, Nov. 12, and said her first duties include getting caught up with typing minutes to past meetings and other things Bauck wasn't able to get finished before she left.

"I'm going to love it. These guys are fun to work for," Lathrop said of county commissioners Mike Hayward, Ben Boswell and Darrel McFetridge. "I'm really enjoying the opportunity to work for the county."

Sandy Botz Lathrop, is a 1980 graduate of Elgin High School and attended Eastern Oregon University (then State College) for two years before marrying Ron Lathrop of La Grande, who had spent summers in Wallowa County on the ranch of his grandfather, Quentin Lathrop. The couple moved from La Grande to Wallowa County 14 years ago when they became partners in the Lathrop family ranch in the Leap area. Ron Lathrop is involved in the cattle/hay ranch operation, and is also varsity basketball coach at Joseph High School.
