Local Rainbow Girls Robin Eschler and Olivia Williams from Joseph and Stephanie George of Enterprise, recently took part in the 81st annual Oregon Grand Assembly of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in Pendleton on June 20-23, 2007.
The annual event is held at the Pendleton Convention Center and is an opportunity for Rainbow Girls to gather with friends from throughout Oregon as well as other states.
There were girls from Oregon, Connecticut, Nebraska, Oklahoma, California, and Washington/Idaho jurisdictions. The girls chaperoned by Claudia Boswell and Bev Hayward.
Williams served in the office of Grand Love and Eschler was Grand Charity. Stephanie was a grand page.
In addition to performing the duties of their offices the girls competed in different competitions. Olivia won first place in the "service" lecture competition and
Eschler placed first in the solo entertainment category, singing a song from the musical, "Wicked."
Eschler, a 2007 graduate of Joseph High School, received four different rainbow scholarships totaling $2,700 to be used at an Oregon college of her choice. She will attend Portland Community College in the fall, majoring in performing arts.
Rainbow's purpose is to promote effective communication skills, leadership skills and community service.
Rainbow Girls also enjoy many fun were activities and have opportunities to make lifelong friendships.
