Wallowa County Sheriff Steve Rogers has confirmed his department is investigating an unattended death in Troy today. He said a 37 year-old man burned to death in his truck.

Rogers said at this point no foul play was suspected in the individual’s death. The incident remains under investigation.

The sheriff said further information will be available in a press release tomorrow.

At least one court case was postponed this morning because of the absence of Wallowa County law enforcement officers, Later the Chieftain learned that a funeral home and the medical examiner had been called to the scene. Radio traffic indicated that the sheriff was out of cell service range.

The Chieftain contacted for details as soon as he is available.

Oregon State Police also confirmed that it has assets on the ground in Troy helping investigate a crime scene although they would not confirm the nature of the crime. They also said that the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and OSP is assisting.
