Arlen Jones, 58, of Irrigon, lost his battle with cancer on Oct. 10, in the Vets NSCU Hospice Center in Vancouver, Wash.
He was born in La Grande, in 1946 to Claude and Mildred Jones. At the age of 10 the family moved to Drain. He attended grade school there and at the age of 13 came to Wallowa County to live with his sister and brother-in-law Ellen and Bill Cow in Lostine. He attended high school in Lostine and Enterprise. In 1966 his senior year he left school to join the Marines, earning many medals including two Purple Hearts.
He served two tours in Vietnam and Japan, and then was stateside until he left the service in 1973.
In California he met and married Ruth Larson, they were divorced in 1987. He then moved to Irrigon and worked for Oregon Potato until he became disabled. When he became ill with cancer he came back to Wallowa again to live with his sister and brother-in-law. He loved to go to the Snake River to catfish and he loved spending time in the great outdoors.
His parents Claude and Mildred Jones, and his ex-wife Ruth Larson precede him in death. But he is survived in death by nine sisters Ellen And Bill Crow, of Wallowa. Edythe Kube of Pendleton, Sharon Blaylock of Vale, Janet Kauwe of Albany, Charlotte Linquest of Sweet Home, Susan Bouse of Albany, Jackie LaMar and Kathy Rand both of Roseburg, Linda Barnett of Oakland; three brothers Robert Nash of Curtin, Jerry Nash of Springfield, and Claude Jones of Albany; many beloved nieces and nephews and one aunt.
